The tobacco marketing season
for the 2024 auction sales is
officially ending today, with mop up sales
planned for August 29, 2024,
However, the contract floors will continue to operate
until such a time when every contractor has received their
tobacco in full.
“However, growers will still be able to sell their auction
tobacco through a mop up sale to be held on 29 August and
contract sales will continue to operate until such a time
when individual contractors have fully received all their
tobacco,” she said. Meanwhile, tobacco sales
have dropped by 22% to about 231m kg in this marketing
season from 295m kg sold in the prior comparative period.
The unfavourable weather conditions during the
production phase were mostly to blame for the decline.

crop’s improved quality is reflected in the higher average
prices offered compared to last year’s.
